In views that don’t have data import enabled, Custom Dimensions values may be viewed for dates before the Custom Dimension was created.
In your Analytics account, you find custom dimensions and metrics as your default dimensions and metrics unless you create a custom dimension or metric for yourself. You can use them to collect the data and analyze which are not automatically tracked by Google Analytics.
These are usually set at the property level in an Analytics account. If you want to create or edit custom dimensions and metrics you must have edit permission on the property. Either creating a Custom dimension or a custom metric is just a two-step procedure.
- At first, you set up the custom dimension or metric in your property.
- Then after that, you can modify your tracking code.
- Make sure you complete these steps in the same order.
But modifying the tracking code should be completed by a Qualified developer who also should follow the instructions in the Developer guide for your specific environment.
Custom dimensions and metrics cannot be deleted when they are once created, but you can return to the account settings in your Analytics account if you want to manage or to edit them. To stop using an existing custom dimension or custom metric, you just have to uncheck the Active box and click on the “Save” button after everything.
