A Call-to-action or simply referred to as CTA overlay is an interactive element in YouTube which will generally appear over a TrueView ad. It can help to drive clicks from customers to your website. An overlay appears when the video starts streaming in YouTube which collapses into thumbnail image after 15 seconds of runtime.

But in Desktop browsers, unlike in mobile or tablet browsers, the CTA expands when viewers hover the feature.

You can usually see them on down left side corner while you are streaming any video on YouTube. There are some technical requirements like Headline Text, Display URL, Destination URL, and Thumbnail while creating a CTA Overlay. You can also create a CTA Overlay in Display and Video 360 by following the below steps.

  • Sign into your Google Ads account.
  • Navigate to the “TrueView ad groups” tab of an existing TrueView line item.
  • Check the ad you would like to which you want to add a CTA.
  • But you can only select one ad at a time in this procedure.
  • Select on the “Actions” and then to “Edit call to action overlay“.
  • Enter all of the required information, including if the CTA should be enabled on mobile devices.
  • Click on the “Save” button.

There are also some limitations in creating and displaying a CTA such as only one overlay should appear on one YouTube video at a time. If you edit or change your existing CTA, the original overlay will also be changed accordingly.
